Getting error message D3D Renderer Creation Failed?

If you have DirectX 9.0 or later installed, your video card meets our technical specifications, and you are still getting the error message, D3D Renderer Creation Failed. Make sure DirectX 9.0 or later is installed correctly, we are sorry you are having this problem. You can fix it by adjusting the display and 3D settings without loading the game, as follows:

  • Right click on your AFMP desktop icon.
  • Choose "Properties"
  • Choose "Shortcut" tab
  • Where it says "Target", add a space, then -rd at the end. For example, should read, as between square brackets, ["C:\Program Files\AFMP\AFMP.exe"-rd]
  • Click Ok

Now, every time you open the game, a dialog box labeled "Select DX9 Display Device" will appear before the game loads. When this dialog box appears, you can:

  • Change the viewing mode from Desktop Window to Full Screen, if you wish
  • Click "Advanced" for other options. Turning off options "Hardware TnL" and/or "Use 24/32-bit Zbuffer if available" may help with graphics card issues, affect on the game may be negligible, depending on your particular system and card.
  • Once you are done adjusting the settings, you can prevent the dialog box from coming up at game launch every time by going through the first 3 steps listed above, and removing the "-rd" from the "Target" box.
